Selling cordless tools online: what the best stores do, and what most still miss
· 24 min read
Three of four cordless tool stores show the tool-only price and never add the battery and charger. What the best do, 10 fixes and a 12-question check.
The 339 zł trimmer that isn't 339 zł
Saturday, 7 a.m. He's in his late forties, standing at the fence with a coffee. The grass along the posts is ankle-high, and the mower can't reach it. Winter is coming.
On his phone he finds a cordless trimmer for 339 zł (about €78), well inside the 150 to 600 zł (about €35 to €135) he planned to spend. The page looks right: the weight, the cutting width, a spool of line in the box, a phone number if he gets stuck.
He taps Add to cart. Then he notices one word in the name: SOLO.
No battery. No charger.
He scrolls. The battery is a separate product, and so is the charger. 2 Ah or 4 Ah? One battery or two? Nobody on the page adds it up for him. Three of the four stores we reviewed show no total, and two don't even say next to the price that the box has no battery.
So the 339 zł is not the price. The real price is the tool, a battery and a charger, and he works it out himself on a small screen while his coffee goes cold.
Then the older worry comes back: if it dies after one season, who fixes it? On three of the four stores, the warranty length isn't next to the price.
Why it happens. The first tool in a battery system is the most expensive one; every tool after it is cheap, because the battery is already in the garage. Stores price for the second purchase. The first-time buyer is shopping for the first, and each extra decision (which battery, which charger, one or two) is a point where he stops to think.
How we looked
Four Polish online stores selling cordless garden and workshop tools on a battery platform (18 V or 20 V): Einhell Polska, Toya24 (the official YATO store), Scheppach Polska and one more store in the set. Reviewed on 26 October 2026 through André Morys' seven levels of conversion (7E).
- Relevance: Is this the right page for me?
- Trust: Can I trust this company?
- Orientation: How do I find the right product?
- Stimulation: Why should I buy here?
- Security: Is it safe to do that here?
- Convenience: How easy will everything be?
- Confirmation: Did I do the right thing?
The same pages on every store: home, the battery-tool or trimmer category, one cordless trimmer product page (tool-only or kit), shipping, returns and warranty terms, help and contact pages. Checkout was not entered.
Two buyers. A DIY homeowner or semi-pro, 30 to 55, buying a 150 to 600 zł tool, who fears "a cheap brand breaks after one season, and then where is the service?". And a buyer joining a battery system or buying a gift, who asks which battery fits, what is in the box, the warranty, the returns and the delivery date.
The review ran at the end of the garden season; where a count rests on stock, it says "on the day". Good practices are credited to the store that does them. Bad practices are counted across the four and shown as recreated mockups with a placeholder brand. No scores or rankings are published.
Quotes are translated from Polish. Where the exact wording is the lesson, the Polish original is shown once, with the translation. The screenshots show the stores as they are, in Polish; each caption says what you are looking at.
1. The niche standard: what every store already does
If your store misses one of these, a tool buyer notices.
Niche standard · 4 of 4 stores
A battery platform with its own page
Every store sells tools around one battery family and explains it somewhere. Toya24: "Jeden akumulator, wiele możliwości" ("One battery, many possibilities") and "Available capacities:" from 2.0 to 9.0 Ah. Einhell: a separate "Power X-Change" path in the main menu.
Niche standard · 4 of 4 stores
Tool-only and kit versions both on sale
A kit next to the tool-only version, or a battery offered on its page. Scheppach sells one trimmer three ways: tool-only, "Set S" and "Set S2", the kit with batteries and charger (in the screenshot). Toya24: "18V grass trimmer (body only)" next to "18V grass trimmer with a 2 Ah battery and charger".
Niche standard · 4 of 4 stores
The company behind the store, by name and number
Company registration numbers and a street address on the contact or terms page. Toya24 adds its departments with phones and hours, service among them. Scheppach: "We are the exclusive representative and authorised service of the Scheppach brand in Poland."
Niche standard · 4 of 4 stores
A phone number with opening hours
In the header, the footer or the buy box. Toya24: "Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 20:00".
Niche standard · 4 of 4 stores
A free-shipping threshold stated
From 100 zł to 400 zł (about €23 to €92) across the set. Einhell: "Free shipping from 400 PLN". Scheppach: "Free and fast delivery from 200 zł" on the product page.
Niche standard · 4 of 4 stores
A service, parts or warranty route
The cheap-brand fear has an answer on every store, though often not at the price (see section 3). Einhell: "Spare parts and user manuals" in the footer. Scheppach: "Warranty registration" and "Service" in the top bar.
2. What the best stores do that few others do
Each practice is used by one or two of the four stores. This is where a store can stand out today.
Good practice · Einhell
"Battery not included" as the first line on the product page
"Należy do rodziny Power X-Change – wymagany akumulator 1x18V" ("Part of the Power X-Change family: needs one 18V battery") as the first bullet, "Supplied without battery and charger (sold separately)" as the last. "Will it work out of the box?" is answered before the price.
Good practice · Einhell
A start kit offered next to the price, with one total
An 18 V 3 Ah battery for 1 zł in the product-page picker, then "Razem za zestaw:" ("Total for the set:"). The first-time buyer sees the cost of working, not only the cost of the body.
Good practice · Toya24
"Fits every battery in the system", on the product page
"Kompatybilność: pasuje do wszystkich akumulatorów systemu YATO 18 V" ("Compatibility: fits every YATO 18 V battery"). The system owner buys in one click, with no FAQ hunt.
Good practice · Toya24
A filter by number of batteries in the box
"Liczba akumulatorów w zestawie" ("Number of batteries in the set"). Body-only vs kit becomes one click, not tile reading.
Good practice · Einhell
Runtime by battery capacity
"Power X-Change battery runtime": 40 minutes on 2.0 Ah up to 120 minutes on 8.0 Ah. He picks the battery for his garden, not for the spec sheet.
Good practice · Toya24
Charge time per battery explained
"Charging a 2.0 Ah battery takes 55 minutes." No surprise about the wait before the first job.
Good practice · Toya24
Spare parts and the manual on the product page
The user manual and the spare-parts list for the model, under "Downloads". "Where is service?" is answered where the fear starts.
Downloads, on the product page
User manual for the model (PDF)
Spare parts for the model (PDF)

Good practice · Einhell
A longer warranty, with the registration step stated
Up to 24 + 96 months on PurePOWER brushless motors after registering "within 30 days of purchase", and door-to-door warranty service. The cheap-brand fear meets a number of years.
Good practice · Toya24
Same-day dispatch with a live countdown, and a phone line in the buy box
"Wysyłka dziś:" ("Ships today:") with a countdown, and "Call and order" right under it. A buyer with a Saturday job knows if it leaves today, and the battery question gets a person, not a form.
Good practice · Toya24
Bestsellers marked inside the system
"Bestseller" on trimmer tiles, and an "18V system bestsellers" section. A starting point in a range of about 50 subcategories.
Good practice · Einhell, Toya24
The full review spread on the product page
He can read the bad reviews and judge them.
On the product page
Einhell: "Reviews (212)", from 155 five-star to 2 one-star
Toya24: "Verified review" and "Unverified review" labels on each review
Quoted; the reviews show reviewers' names, so no screenshot.
Good practice · Einhell
Named people at the company
The founder, Josef Thannhuber, and the CEO, Andreas Krois, quoted; "60 years of Einhell". "Cheap brand?" is answered by a company with a history.
Good practice · Einhell
Outside authority
"Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team", "FC Bayern München". A name he knows, not an adjective.
Good practice · Einhell
One offer told the same way from banner to terms
A "Charge up for autumn" home slide, the same offer in the product-page picker, and the promo terms linked in the footer. No "which page is true?".
Good practice · Einhell
A sticky add bar that names the product
The button stays in reach on a long spec page.
3. Common bad practices, and the fix
Counts are out of four stores. The mockups are recreated with a placeholder brand; none shows a real store.
Common bad practice · 3 of 4 stores
The price shows the tool alone, not the battery and charger
The body is priced; the battery and charger are separate products, or the kit is a switch to another page, and no total is shown. On 2 of 4, the product page does not say plainly, next to the price, that the tool ships without a battery. A first-time buyer sees a low price and finds the real one later.

Add to cartTotal 529 zł
Won't a bigger number scare buyers off? The tool-only price stays where it is. The total sits under it as an option: a buyer who already owns a battery still sees the low price, and a first-time buyer sees the real one before checkout, not after.
Common bad practice · 4 of 4 stores
The real reason to buy here sits off the hero
One battery for every tool, service in Poland, a longer warranty: on all four stores these live on a system page, in the footer or in SEO text. The first screen carries a slogan, a value line or a promotion.

No chooser and no curated comparison

The promise and the fine print disagree
The same term given two ways on two pages of one store: a contact detail, a policy line, or what is in the box.

FAQ: Return address A
In the terms:Return address B. The buyer pays return shipping.

Common bad practice · 3 of 4 stores
The warranty length is not next to the price
It sits further down the page, on a warranty page, or nowhere on the reviewed pages. The buyer's biggest fear is answered two clicks away.

The buyer pays the return, and nothing offsets it
The terms leave the return cost with the consumer, worded as the legal default. Fine legally; it gives a hesitant buyer no reason to choose this store over a marketplace.

Copy and template leaks
Misprinted ratings or prices, placeholder text left in the page, typos, outdated lines. In a category that sells reliability, a leak reads as a quality problem.

4. What the category leader teaches: Einhell
Five things that set it apart.
Lesson 1 · Einhell
The battery question first
"Part of the Power X-Change family: needs one 18V battery" as the first bullet and "Supplied without battery and charger (sold separately)" as the last.
Lesson 2 · Einhell
The start kit at the price
An 18 V 3 Ah battery for 1 zł (about €0.25) or a starter set for 79 zł (about €18) in the product-page picker, then "Total for the set:" and "The selected product is added to the cart automatically."
Lesson 3 · Einhell
Runtime he can plan with
"Power X-Change battery runtime", from 40 minutes on 2.0 Ah to 120 minutes on 8.0 Ah.
Lesson 4 · Einhell
A warranty number against the cheap-brand fear
Up to 24 + 96 months on PurePOWER brushless motors after registration, and door-to-door warranty service.
Lesson 5 · Einhell
A company with faces
The founder and the CEO by name and quoted, "over 2,700 employees" worldwide.
5. Self-check: score your store
One point per yes.
- 1
Does a tool-only product page say, next to the price, that there is no battery or charger in the box?
Like Einhell: "needs one 18V battery" as the first bullet.
- 2
Can a first-time buyer add a battery and charger at the product page and see one total?
Like Einhell: "Total for the set:" under the picker.
- 3
Does the product page say which batteries fit?
Like Toya24: "fits every YATO 18 V battery".
- 4
Can a visitor filter by the number of batteries in the box?
Like Toya24: a "Number of batteries in the set" filter.
- 5
Does the product page give runtime per battery size?
Like Einhell: 40 min on 2.0 Ah to 120 min on 8.0 Ah.
- 6
Is the warranty length next to Add to cart?
A "no" looks like: the warranty years only on a separate warranty page.
- 7
Are spare parts and the manual one click from the product page?
Like Toya24: the user manual and the spare-parts list under "Downloads".
- 8
Do your product page, FAQ and policies give the same answer on every term?
A "no" looks like: one term, two answers on two pages.
- 9
Does the hero name the system or the service promise, not a slogan?
For example: "one battery for every tool, service in Poland" in the headline, the promo second.
- 10
Can a buyer choose a tool without reading model codes?
For example: three tiles above the grid by garden size, or a short comparison table.
- 11
Does the tool page give a delivery date, not only a cut-off?
For example: "order by 13:00, arrives tomorrow". None of the four does this on the trimmer page yet.
- 12
Does a sold-out page offer the nearest in-stock tool from the same system?
A "no" looks like: "sold out" and a notify form, nothing else.
- You are ahead of most of the niche.
- 10–12
- The fixes in section 3 are your next steps.
- 6–9
- Start with questions 1, 2 and 6: they decide whether a first-time buyer trusts the price and the brand.
- 0–5
